What Really Happens in a Channeling Session? A Look Inside a Reading with The Anokhi

If you have never experienced channeling, you may wonder what actually happens during a session.
Do you sit quietly while someone speaks for an unseen presence? Do you ask questions? Will you remember everything? Is the experience mysterious, emotional, practical: or all three?
A channeling session can be difficult to describe because every person experiences it differently. At its heart, however, a session is a focused conversation intended to bring greater clarity, awareness, and support to your life.
In my sessions, the channeling work involves connecting with The Anokhi, a group consciousness that offers general guidance, responses to specific questions, healing, and energetic attunements. The purpose is not to take control of your life or make decisions for you. The purpose is to help you see yourself and your situation more clearly so you can make more empowered choices.
What Is Channeling?
Channeling is commonly described as receiving and communicating information, impressions, or energy through a receptive state of consciousness. Different practitioners use the word in different ways. Some channel a higher self, some work with guides or spiritual beings, and others describe the experience as receiving universal wisdom or intuitive information.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences describes channeling as a process involving information and energy beyond conventional ideas of space and time. It also notes that channeling can exist on a spectrum, from everyday intuition and gut feelings to more unusual experiences such as trance channeling.
For me, channeling is a way of allowing The Anokhi to communicate guidance that may help you understand your emotional patterns, energetic blocks, relationships, work, and larger life questions.
You do not have to arrive with a particular belief system. You do not need to know exactly what to ask. Curiosity, openness, and a willingness to consider a different perspective are enough.
Before the Session: Setting an Intention
A session begins before the actual channeling starts.
You may already have a question or concern in mind. Perhaps you are facing a career decision, moving through a relationship challenge, feeling stuck in an old emotional pattern, or trying to understand why the same situation keeps appearing in your life.
You may also simply feel that something needs to change, without knowing what to call it.
Taking a few minutes to reflect on your intention can help focus the session. You might ask yourself:
- What would I like to understand more clearly?
- Where do I feel blocked or uncertain?
- What pattern keeps repeating in my life?
- What would feeling more empowered look like?
- Am I willing to consider my own role in this situation?
You can bring specific questions, but you do not need to prepare a long list. A good session often develops naturally as the conversation unfolds.

Beginning the Channeling Session
At the beginning of a session, there is time to settle in and clarify what you want to explore. This opening conversation helps create context and gives you an opportunity to share what is happening in your life.
You may talk about:
- A decision you are considering
- A difficult relationship
- A recurring emotional reaction
- A career or business concern
- A feeling of disconnection or lack of purpose
- A desire to become more confident, intuitive, or effective
From there, I shift my attention into the channeling process. This may involve becoming quieter and more receptive, allowing impressions and communication from The Anokhi to come through.
Channeling does not necessarily look dramatic. It may not involve theatrical movements or a completely different personality. Often, it is a calm and focused process in which I receive and communicate information, guidance, or energetic impressions.
The experience may include spoken messages, images, feelings, words, or an awareness of themes connected to your question. These impressions are then translated into language that you can understand and explore.
What Happens During the Reading?
A channeling session is usually interactive. You are not expected to sit silently while someone gives you a fixed prediction about your future.
You can ask questions, request clarification, and explain how something relates: or does not relate: to your experience. The conversation may move between direct guidance and deeper exploration of the patterns underneath your situation.
The Anokhi may bring attention to:
- Emotional or energetic blocks
- Ideas about yourself that no longer serve you
- Reactions formed from past experiences
- Ways your energy affects your relationships and work
- Opportunities to respond differently
- Beliefs that limit your confidence or choices
- The next step toward greater clarity and alignment
Some messages may feel immediately familiar. Others may challenge the way you have been viewing a situation. That does not mean you are required to accept every message without question.
The most useful guidance should invite reflection, not demand obedience.

Channeling Is Not About Giving Away Your Power
One of the most important parts of a channeling session is understanding what it is not.
Channeling is not meant to make you dependent on a practitioner. It is not a replacement for your own judgment. It is not a way to avoid responsibility by blaming other people, your past, or outside circumstances for everything happening in your life.
There may be situations you did not create and events you could not control. At the same time, you still have influence over how you respond, what you believe, the boundaries you set, and the actions you take next.
This is where spiritual guidance can become genuinely empowering.
A session may help you recognize that you have been waiting for another person to change before allowing yourself to move forward. It may reveal how fear has shaped a decision. It may help you see that an old identity is no longer aligned with who you are becoming.
The point is not to judge yourself for these patterns. The point is to become aware of them so you can choose something different.
A powerful session should leave you with more access to your own clarity: not less.
Is Channeling the Same as Therapy?
No. Channeling and therapy are different forms of support.
Therapy is provided by a trained mental health professional and is designed to address psychological, emotional, and behavioral concerns within a clinical framework. A channeling session offers spiritual and energetic guidance. It may provide a new perspective on your experience, but it is not medical or mental health treatment.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, severe distress, or symptoms that interfere with your safety and daily functioning, seek help from a qualified mental health professional or emergency service.
Spiritual guidance and professional care can sometimes exist alongside each other, but they should not be confused.
What Should You Expect to Feel?
There is no single correct way to feel during or after a session.
Some people feel relief because they finally have language for something they have been sensing. Others feel emotional, energized, thoughtful, or surprised. You may experience a shift in perspective that continues to unfold over the following days.
You might also leave with more questions than you arrived with. That can be part of the process. Greater awareness does not always produce an instant answer. Sometimes it begins a deeper conversation with yourself.
The goal is not necessarily to receive a prediction about exactly what will happen. It is to understand the energy of your current situation and identify choices that support your growth.
After the Session: Integration Matters
The reading does not end when the conversation ends.
Give yourself time to reflect on what you heard. You may want to write down key ideas, emotional reactions, or specific actions that came to mind. Notice which insights continue to feel meaningful after you have had time to process them.
You can ask:
- What message stayed with me?
- What felt energizing or clarifying?
- What challenged an old belief?
- What action feels appropriate now?
- What do I need to verify through my own experience?
- Am I moving toward greater freedom and self-trust?

Integration is where insight becomes change. A channeling session may show you a pattern, but you are the one who practices a new response. It may point toward a possibility, but you are the one who decides whether and how to pursue it.
You do not need to act on every insight immediately. Take time. Consider practical information. Talk with trusted people when appropriate. Let your own discernment remain part of the process.
Is a Channeling Session Right for You?
A channeling session may be helpful if you are:
- Open to exploring spiritual and energetic perspectives
- Looking for clarity during a transition
- Willing to examine your own patterns
- Interested in developing greater self-awareness
- Ready to move from feeling powerless toward recognizing your influence
- Curious about guidance from The Anokhi
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. You only need a willingness to participate honestly in the process.
What really happens in a channeling session is a meeting between focused spiritual guidance and your own ability to listen, question, discern, and act. The session can offer insight, but your life remains yours.
The most meaningful outcome is not simply hearing a message. It is discovering how much more clearly you can see your choices: and how much power you have to create your next step.
For additional background, the Institute of Noetic Sciences’ overview of channeling and this practical guide to what to expect in a channeling session offer broader perspectives on the experience. As with any form of spiritual guidance, approach the work with openness, discernment, and respect for your own inner authority.
